How to set up your own Design Lab (D-Lab) at home?
The Fall 2014 session of ELIM Virtual University is expected to commence in September 2014 and it is time to get prepared for the practical sessions in the field of Electrical Engineering.
The following courses are available in Electrical Engineering:
1. Design of SMART Homes (Energy Efficient and Sustainable Energy)
2. Home Appliances Trouble shooting and Maintenance
3. Design of Quality Electronic Products
We help students to design and develop new products with patents. 30 credits are assigned to each course out of which a student is expected to earn a minimum of 20 credits to become eligible for the certification. For further details, please contact:

A low cost Design Lab in Electrical Engineering can be set up in your home with the following equipment to start with:
1. Digital Multimeter
2. Tools Kit ( set of screw drivers)
3. Soldering iron or gun
4. Testing kit for fluorescent lamp chokes, starters
5. Regulated power supplies
6. Solar panel with LED
7. Sundry electrical components such as switches, wires, plug sockets, panel boards with MCBs, contactors, miniature motors, transformers, etc.
9. Sundry electronic components such as resistors, diodes, capacitors, ICs, connecting strips, rewireable boards, micro switches, sensors, etc.
You can keep adding components and test equipment to your Lab on a regular monthly basis when you can afford them. In addition, you may also need a computer system of a minimum configuration with Windows Operating System.
Software required: PSPICE/Electronic Work bench, MATLAB, LabVIEW
Floor area required: minimum 100 sq. ft.
The Design Lab will be useful for students of Electrical Engineering to enable them to develop projects on their own. We recommend Engineering Institutions and Universities to encourage students to set up their own D-Labs in their homes and give additional credits for mini projects and assignments.
